Seyran Ates is a lawyer specialized in family law and an author. As a women´s rights and a human rights activist, and as a Muslim woman, she is a prominent voice in the fight against religious and tradition-related violence. Her books stimulate and inspire discussion about gender equality, Islam and integration. In June 2017 Ms. Ateş opened the Ibn Rushd-Goethe mosque in Berlin, the first liberal mosque in Germany, where men and women pray together and women can take the role of imam leading a prayer.
