Lisbon, Portugal—UPF and an affiliated organization, Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP), were invited to participate in an awards ceremony honoring prominent Portuguese-speakers.

The singer Isabel Leitão, an Ambassador for Peace, along with two other WFWP Ambassadors for Peace, Dr. Mário Máximo and Hon. Paulo Pisco, invited UPF and WFWP to the third Lusofonia Awards Gala, which was held on October 19, 2019, in the Municipal Auditorium of Ruy de Carvalho.

The event’s supporters included the Municipal Chamber, with the presence of its vice president, and Ambassador Francisco Telles, the executive secretary of the Portuguese Language Countries Communities (CPLP).

Created to honor outstanding personalities of the Lusophone countries in a number of areas (science and health, environment, education, citizenship, music, career, among others), the awards ceremony was attended by many distinguished personalities, including Dr. José Manuel Ramos-Horta, the former president of Timor-Leste and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

The UPF national president was invited to present an award to the Cape Verdean Association honoring its 25 years in Portugal. The national president of WFWP was asked to receive an award on behalf of a laureate who was unable to attend.
